Summarize
(3 pages, handwritten; B-3) Report, dated 24 Mar 70, signed by Bui X. Váng for the Command Committee of 1st Company (possibly of 19th Signal School Battalion, Signal Office, Military Staff Department, Headquarters, SVNLA), concerns military activities conducted in Mar 70. Document states that during the cited period, 66.23% of the trainees were rated as qualified; and 37.77% of them fulfilled the prescribed criteria in the study of electricity, telephone communications, and connection of dry batteries. Personnel of C1 (1st Company) constructed seven billets and one conference room; repaired three trenches, three billets, and two wells; downed one helicopter; and completed construction of a telephone line of 18.5 kilometers from the first to the last (telephone) station on 13 Mar 70. Cl transferred the responsibility of securing this telephone line to D4 (possibly 44th Signal Battalion) on 21 Mar 70, and started conducting training courses for its personnel on 25 Mar 70. Cl had six telephone switchboards, seven telephones, and 11 rolls of nylon wire. Concerning combat preparations, Cl was organized into three elements: The first element, composed of 15 men, was responsible for defense of the outer perimeter of C1 base area; the second element, also composed of 15 men, was responsible for the defense of Cl base area; the third element, composed of unhealthy men, was prepared to evacuate when the order was given. Concerning organization for defense, Cl constructed five T-shaped trenches and a number of defensive breastworks, and planted mines at A13 Stream and Riec Areas (unlocated). Document also reveals that in spite of difficulties caused by the enemy (FWMAF/RVNAF) and K (Cambodians), the rear service element, Cl, procured 385 kilograms of vegetables, chickens, and cassava. Cl also lost 200 kilograms of rice and a number of kitchen utensils; and received 1,425 kilograms of rice, 12 tables, and eight chairs from C3 (possibly 3rd Company, 19th Signal School Battalion).
