Personal history statement, dated 5 Nov 69, prepared by Nguyen Xuan Tai of Doi 3- Inter-Unit 87, reveals that Tai was born on 27 Jun 46 in Nam Vang (in Cambodia). He enlisted (VC) on 22 Jun 65, was assigned to C7, D2-Q1-Công Truong 9 (possibly 7th Company, 2nd Battalion, 271st Regiment, 9th VC Division); was transferred to Inter-Unit 87 in May 67, to B61 4-Inter-Unit 87 on an unstated date, to Boi 6 Inter-Unit 87 in Aug 68, and finally to Boi 3- Inter-Unit 87.
