Three letters, dated 21, 22, and 23 Feb 71, all signed by Van, addressed to Duc and Soan of the Security Guard Unit ((possibly of the 3rd Battalion, 230th Transportation Regiment)), state that an unspecified battalion ((possibly the 3rd Battalion)) used 32 members to activate one security guard unit. The command committee of this unit consisted of Dan, Platoon Leader; Soan, Political Officer; and Hanh, Assistant Platoon Leader. Its missions were to ambush enemy units, shoot at aircraft, and protect transportation C's ((companies)). Its area of responsibility was from the Nuoc Bin area to the Nuoc Not area and K2 ((possibly Area 2)), Doc Chay ((Slope)), and Doc Móc Bridge. The Security Guard Unit was to assign one of the three squads to perform farm production tasks. The addressees were ordered to use directional mines to attack an enemy unit in the Thác Da area if it remained in this area.
