Summarize
Document indicates that the concerned D was composed of four companies designated C1 through C4. This unit departed by train. While traveling by train the members were forbidden to leave the train during short stops for water supply at Hai Duong and Hanoi Railroad Station. They were then transported by truck along the Highway 1, and arrived in Cam Thang Village, Cẩm Xuyên District, Hà Tĩnh Province, on 31 May. After traveling by motorboat for 50 kilometers on an unidentified waterway, the unit reached Way Station 18 of Military Station 26 at Cu Na Village, Bố Trạch District, Quảng Bình Province, on 3 Apr. The entire D boarded 19 trucks at an unspecified parking field on 6 Apr for another unidentified destination where a two-day rest stop was to be made. Subsequent entries dated from 7 Apr to 15 May relate the organizational buildup of the communication line operated by Doan 5.59 aka 559th Transportation Group, on which this D moved to Region 5. It was shown that this transportation group owes its designation to the date of its activation, May of 1959. Its primary missions were to ship personnel NVN troops and goods war material to the SVN battlefields. The communication line operated by Doan 559, a great part of which was in Lao territory, was subdivided into military stations which usually consisted of four to five way stations each. There was one communication liaison D battalion in each military station. Specifically, Way Stations 3 to 9, located in the Upper Laos, were under the responsibility of D7; Way Stations 10 to 14 were assigned to Military Station 32 and were controlled by D9; Way Stations 31 to 35 were controlled by Military Station 44 and D17. Chronologically, the unit arrived in Mu8ng Nông District, Pa Pakhet Savannakhet Province, Laos on 28 Apr; crossed the Sekong River on 7 May; arrived at Way Station 61 on 8 May; Stations 250 and 251 on 11 May; Station 252 on 12 May; Station 253 on 13 May, and arrived in Quang Nam Province on 15 May 70. Document also reveals that this D battalion was to leave Quang Nam Province for an unspecified destination the following day 16 May 70. Document also contains a record listing the amounts of weapons and equipment assigned to the author's company, including 41 unspecified weapons; 5,588 rounds of ammunition; 37 pickaxes; 64 shovels; six wire cutters; 31 daggers, and 33 machetes. Also shown were four personnel rosters listing the names of 10 C Company cadre including Năm, Company Commander, and Siu, Company Political Officer; 37 members of A1, A2, and A3 possibly 1st, 2nd and 3rd Squads of 1st Platoon; 36 of A4, A5, and A6 possibly 4th through 6th Squads, 2nd Platoon; and 36 of A7, A8, and A9 possibly 7th through 9th Squads, 3rd Platoon.
